Fall’s Finale

Fall’s Finale

  • It’s been way too long since my last post and I’m sorry about that. My head is filled with stories for you. Hopefully I will make the time to write them soon. The autumn weeks have been passing quickly. Our weather has been extremely fickle. One week it’s near 70 degrees and the next week it’s snowing. I’m not really complaining- I’d much rather have the fickleness than all snow and cold temperatures. The trees still hold some leaves, though they are falling rapidly. There has been a steady breeze that carries the leaves for quite some time before they make it to the ground. It’s best witnessed from below. The kids and I will lay down on our backs, stare straight up into the sky, and watch the blizzard of yellow leaves float above us. It’s awesome.

Not everyone loves the fallen foliage as much as I do. I’ll admit that raking the leaves is a huge chore, but I’d workout at nature’s gym anytime over running on the treadmill. Every year is the same- friends and neighbors complain about how many more leaves they have to rake up compared to everyone else. It’s like a competition to see how many bags of leaves are collected. We have three huge maple trees in our yard. Our neighbors have an absolutely enormous oak tree. It’s fair to say that we all rake our fair share of leaves. We’ve raked leaves several times already this fall but are waiting for the last of them to drop before we do our major cleanup. I truly don’t mind the experience. It’s great to work outside, move the body, and take in the fresh air. Before we know it, they’ll all be raked up and the limbs will be bare. Everyone goes inside and you might not see some of your neighbors until April. So until then, why not enjoy every last leaf that falls? I know that me and my crew will. (well, maybe not Adam, who will definitely be keeping count of how many bags we collect!) On that note, how do you celebrate fall’s finale?

One Response and Counting...

You have the perfect attitude! And funny just last night we were talking about our beautiful fall trees and how we just mow over the leaves. We obviously don’t have nearly as many leaves falling as you do! Tomorrow I’ll be celebrating the end of fall by running a 5K with obstacles in the pouring rain and cold. BUT I’ll be with a team and we’ll make the best of it and have fun!
